Based in Brighton, ceramicist William Papworth studied fine art before taking to the potters wheel. Working from his garden studio, he is entirely self-taught. His background in fine art shows though the refinement of his pieces which although simple in form, are extremely considered in their design whilst also remaining highly functional objects. Using a pared-back colour palette, William is particularly interested in ash-based glazes and the natural alchemy that goes into these.
This large tapered bowl is a wonderfully sculptural pieces which would just as good on a sideboard as it would on the kitchen table. A staggered, conical form which is finished in a soft, matt white glaze.
